Year 1
Building a house from construction materials (like Lego) – linked to London’s burning and science ‘everyday materials’
Making a windmill using a pin ‘wheel’ mechanism - link to science/geography - weather.
Cooking includes: fruit kebabs, cupcakes, mini bread loaves and savoury dips.
Year 2
Children create a ‘moving picture’ to demonstrate their understanding of one of the traditional tales (Linked to English topic Long, Long Ago)
Creating an item that requires planning, designing, cutting, sewing – using textiles. For example, a picture using binka or a simple pouch.
Cooking includes: gingerbread man/woman, healthy pizza, egg and cress sandwiches and hummus.
Year 3
Children make a photograph frame for the art that they have created in ‘Picture Me.’ The frame must have mitre corners and be able to stand up.
Design and make a board game linked to mapping in geography.
Cooking includes: carrot cake, pea and mint soup and Spanish omelette.
Year 4
Design and make a chocolate bar and wrapper linked to English topic ‘You’re having a Laugh’ (Roald Dahl)
Planning, designing, creating for the Archbishop of York project.
Cooking includes: Leek and cheese tart, Stir fry with noodles and fruit crumble.
Year 5
Design, research and make a prototype of an air raid shelter (Anderson Shelter) linked to the topic 'A Child's War'
Experience weaving, sewing, darning linked to WW2 'Make do and Mend.' Plan and make something new from old clothes.
Study the designers and inventors that contributed to 'The Industrial Revolution'
Make an object using levers and pulleys (linked to science - forces)
Cooking includes: vegetable soup, baked potato with home-made coleslaw and pancakes with sweet apple topping
Year 6
Design and make a product that uses electricity and computer programming e.g. Traffic lights, house alarm. This links to science and computing.
Whilst making Maya whistles from clay (in art) children will consolidate some design skills
Children design and make their own healthy cup cake with appealing packaging during cooking, topic and DT to sell at the summer fair.
Cooking includes: butternut squash burritos, spring rolls, pumpkin soup and vegetable biryani
